The Unix Time Stamp

Unix time corresponds to the number of seconds that have elapsed since Midnight Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), January 1, 1970 also referred as Unix Epoch. Leap seconds are not considered
Thus, it tracks time as a running total of seconds since the Unix Epoch.
Computer systems can sort time as integer values more efficiently compared to numbers in a date format like 01/03/2010.

However, the 32-bit overflow will be a problem on January 19, 2038. Before that date the time stamp has to be modified or computers should run with a 64-bit system.
